Volunteers

Here are a few highlights from our volunteer orientation:

Scope Management

  • It is more art than science on volunteer projects
  • Expect the initial scope to require clarification, re-focusing and/or downsizing over the first 2 months
  • Accept the lack of control and slightly moving target
  • Be realistic about staff and volunteer availability
  • Suggest simplified approaches, tactics, and outputs

Client Relationship Management

  • You determine the client's opinion of COMPASS as an effective, cooperative, professional resource.
  • Defer to client's subject matter expertise.
  • Between meetings, coordinate client communications through your project leader(s).
  • Watch the business jargon; explain your analytical and process suggestions.
  • Keep written communications and deliverables concise; encourage input and questions.

Make the Most of Your Participation

  • Learn from your client
  • Learn from your diverse teammates and enjoy their company
  • Develop new skills, refine old ones
  • Enjoy the analytical process and teamwork
  • Bring your patience, creativity, and sense of humor to the table
  • Take pride in the highly valued results of a job well done
  • Have fun!
