Here are a few highlights from our volunteer orientation:
Scope Management
- It is more art than science on volunteer projects
- Expect the initial scope to require clarification, re-focusing and/or downsizing over the first 2 months
- Accept the lack of control and slightly moving target
- Be realistic about staff and volunteer availability
- Suggest simplified approaches, tactics, and outputs
Client Relationship Management
- You determine the client's opinion of COMPASS as an effective, cooperative, professional resource.
- Defer to client's subject matter expertise.
- Between meetings, coordinate client communications through your project leader(s).
- Watch the business jargon; explain your analytical and process suggestions.
- Keep written communications and deliverables concise; encourage input and questions.
